Terms Aims and objectives
Sims Leppard is a Metal Welding and Fabrication company with their main administration office and workshop at the Newport site.
Their I.T. requirements have steadily grown and at the outset of this project they had a total of 4 workstations. Each machine had basic individual email access and a simple peer to peer network was configured between 2 workstations for simple file sharing.
Having met and consulted with Sims Leppard the following requirements were identified:

Centralised data storage platform
Ability to set security and access rights
Automated backup
Email solution, with groupware and scheduling features
Remote access of email
Protection from Virus and Hacker attacks
Scope for expansion of system

Process
Experience from a previous project allowed us to specify the necessary equipment and software to satisfy 80% of the requirement.
The remaining analysis was obtained by closely observing the methods and practices that Sims Leppard applies as part of their office procedure.
This ensured that the solution we provided was specifically tailored to Sims Leppard.

Planned deliverables
Microsoft Windows 2000 Small Business Server.
Bespoke Server System with Redundancy and Tape Backup.
Configuration of all user accounts.
Email system set-up.
Remote access set-up and test.

Outcomes/achievements

The new system supplied met all of the requirements of the customer. Additionally since the new systems have been in place new computers have been added to the network, and there is now a total of 7 workstations.
As a company Sims Leppard are now making more efficient use of their computers and a marked increase in productivity has been noted by the Management staff.
